Cayce, the Sleeping Prophet, also called the "Father of Holistic Medicine", often referred to diet and food combinations as an important step on your journey to regain health.  Not only did he make accurate predictions, but in fact, two-thirds of his readings dealt with body illness and how a person could once again balance their health.  Dr. William McGarey became a believer as he studied and put into practice Cayce's useful and practical information put forth in his "readings".  McGarey, who passed in 2008, was himself a bit of a pioneer in holistic medicine, a respected physician and author of over a dozen books on healing and spirituality.

 

As Dr. McGarey states in the book, "True healing of the body is an attunement of the physical and the mental to their spiritual source....into relationship with what we eat, we find a more special meaning in the kind of diet we choose from day to day...Thus to clarify the purpose of this book, it would be well to say that it is intended to give you a useful and practical source of information regarding what constructive eating is all about."

 

The realization that our own bodies take what we put into our mouths, and use the nutrients contained within to create energy and give our cells the life-giving substances to rebuild themselves is so important to keep in mind.  When we eat junk, our bodies become junked down.  It only makes sense when we stop to think about it.  Ditching fried foods, eating lots of salads and fresh greens, choosing organic and locally grown fruits was all advised by Cayce.  In this volume, McGarey gives all the ins and outs of following a diet that leads to healing.  He discusses the importance of pure water, attitudes, creating your best personal diet, what foods and what combinations to avoid and perhaps most important, what the acid-alkaline balance of the body should be and how to accomplish it.  To avoid disease, we should strive to keep our bodies in an alkaline state.

 

I love Dr. McGarey's works, and I feel this is a good one to read and keep on the shelf.  Changing our diet is something all of us can do to become more energetic, life-filled and perhaps work on healing an illness we may have developed.  It would be a great resolution to the start of a new you in the new year.   McGarey adds, "...that revelation...brought me face-to-face with a concept I had read in the Bible and heard repeated literally hundreds of times: the body is indeed the temple of the Living God."
