Many years ago, I had a strange experience. I was nine years old, and we lived in a small house along the Little Bear Creek. It had a wooden bridge that crossed the creek, over to our barn and fields. In the field was a delightful dip that made the best seat and when a child sat in the dip, it was like you were hidden from the world and in your own little world. I liked to take my book to that dip and read. So, one fine spring day when the air was warm and sun shining, I felt the best way to forget about school, was to change into my play clothes, grab a book and head to the dip across the old wooden bridge.
I was quite happy listening to the birds and sounds all around me. But as my foot touched the bridge, the world suddenly turned silent. I heard a crunching and cracking sound and looked along the bank to my right. There along the bank were these strange dark creatures with faces like men, but bodies like some type of strange animal. They were crunching on tree roots, but I got the feeling they were helping the trees in some way. As I watched in astonishment, suddenly one of them turned to see me. I heard in my mind as it said, "She can see us", and the others (a bunch of them), started whispering "She can see", "She can see!"
I was transfixed and couldn't move. Then there was a female voice that was in my head that said, "Don't worry, she won't hurt us." My head snapped to the left and there, in the center of the creek, stood a three- or four-foot creature with hair head to foot. You couldn't see its' face due to the blond hair, but its' voice was definitely female. The fear over-took me, and I was able to spin around and run straight home. Never again did I cross that bridge alone. A year later we moved away to the farm. But I wondered about what it was I saw, all those years to this day. I knew it was real, but what was it? Why did the sounds of nature disappear as I stepped on the bridge?
I think I have finally found my answer to what it was I experienced on reading this book. In the pages, you will find people's experiences of encountering the fairy folk. When they described the disappearance of sound when they entered the Fae world, it sounded exactly what happened when my foot stepped on the wooden bridge. It may seem a strange subject, but the fact is, we don't really know what reality is. I'm a firm believer that the universe if filled with many dimensions, and the fairy realm inhabits one of them, and sometimes, their world intersects with ours. The fact that those dark figures were helping the trees in some way, merely coincides with what we know about fairies. They love nature and live in harmony with it. Perhaps that is why I am so drawn to them; they love the bees and flowers even more than I do. If you have ever wondered about the realm of fairies and want to get a glimpse of it, try this little booklet. It has set me on a quest to learn more.
