One Homemade Rub---3 Different Healing Uses

You can use cough syrups for soothing your sore throat and helping reduce coughs, you can make Elderberry syrup to boost your immune system.  But nothing can beat having a good rub on hand to help break up congestion and make you feel better when you have a cold or flu, use as a massage for sore muscles or arthritis pain, and a migraine rub.   They are easy to mix up, can travel with you and are easy to apply whenever needed.

Basic Recipe:

¼ cup carrier oil (coconut, jojoba or almond oil)

1 Tablespoon beeswax beads (or grated beeswax)

Up to 30 drops of essential oil or essential oil blend.  Melt the beeswax and carrier oil gently in a double boiler. Remove from heat and add your essential oil or blend of several essential oils.  Pour into a glass jar or container with lid and let cool.

Essential oils you will need for the three recipes:

*Please note, on any recipe, use a skin patch test for you and your family before use to make sure there are no reactions or allergies.  These rubs are affordable alternatives to store-bought remedies and since natural, much more effective to the healing of the body.  Just be sure to use real, natural, therapeutic strength essential oils, which can be purchased online or at any health food store.

Eucalyptus essential oil --- Boosts the immune system, has antiviral and antibacterial properties, stimulates blood flow, and relieves sore muscles.

Cold Chest Rub (think Vicks)

This recipe is good to keep on hand when colds or flu pops up.  It helps clear congestion and helps in the release of phlegm.  Makes you feel better.  Rub on the chest, hands, backs of knees, bottoms of feet and socks as you go to bed.  For stuffy nose rub under nose or dilute some of the rub in hot water as a steam inhalation, using a towel over the head to direct the steam.

10 drops Peppermint essential oil

8-10 drops Rosemary essential oil

Muscle Pain or Arthritis Rub

Arthritis can be a debilitating condition that affects millions of people worldwide. Homemade remedies like this arthritis rub recipe can minimize the pain associated with chronic inflammation in the joints. Combine ingredients and rub gently onto painful areas twice daily. Do not use on large areas of the body. It can also be used as pain relief for sore muscles due to overuse.

15 drops lavender essential oil

15 drops rosemary essential oil

Headache or Migraine Rub

Headaches can sometimes be debilitating, especially migraines.  Migraines are a special type of headache that can be triggered by hormones, dietary triggers, stress, or other stimuli.  Simple headaches can be the result of stress or sinus inflammation.  Apply this rub to your temples or use as a steam.  You can also use a cool compress on your temple after applying the rub.  Use liberally whenever a headache strikes.

15 drops Peppermint essential oil

10 drops Lavender essential oil

5 drops Chamomile essential oil

It is easy to have all three of these rubs on hand for your needs.  Just be sure to label your jars.  Then whenever you need them, they are never very far away.  I often notice when the jars are down to the bottom and tell myself that’s the time to make another batch.  It only takes minutes, and it can make your life so much easier.  Often, I will use the pain relief one to rub my neck and shoulders as that is where I hold my stress.  Let me know if you have made any of these and what you have used them for.
